FIRST VESPERS OF MARY MOTHER OF GOD
RECORDED FULL SERVICES
Antiphon
O wonderful exchange! The Creator of human nature took on a human body
and was born of the Virgin. He became man without having a human father
and has bestowed on us his divine nature.
I
O admirábile commércium! Creátor géneris humáni, animátum corpus sumens,
de Vírgine nasci dignátus est; et, procédens homo sine sémine, largítus est nobis suam deitátem.
.
PSALM 113
Praise, servants of the Lord,
praise the name of the Lord.
Laudáte, púeri Dómini,*
laudáte nomen Dómini.
Antiphon
You were born of the Virgin in a mysterious manner
of which no man can speak; you fulfilled the scriptures;
like rain falling gently on the earth you came hither to save the human race.
We praise you: you are our God.
Quando natus es ineffabíliter ex Vírgine, tunc implétæ sunt Scriptúræ:
sicut plúvia in vellus descendísti, ut salvum fáceres genus humánum.
Te laudámus, Deus noster.
Psalm 147B
Praise the Lord, Jerusalem
— Zion, sing praises to your God.
Lauda, Ierúsalem, Dóminum;*
colláuda Deum tuum, Sion
Antiphon
Moses saw the thorn bush that was on fire yet was not burnt up.
In it we see a sign of your virginity, which all must honor.
Mother of God, pray for us.
Rubum, quem víderat Móyses incombústum,
conservátam agnóvimus tuam laudábilem virginitátem. Dei Génetrix, intercéde pro nobis.
CANTICLE EPHESIANS 1

Benedíctus Deus et Pater Dómini nostri Iesu Christi,*
Short Reading
Galatians 4:4-5

And he lived among us. Alleluia, alleluia.
Responsorium breve
℣. Verbum caro factum est, * Allelúia, allelúia.

Antiphon
God loved us so much that he sent his own Son in a mortal nature like ours:
he was born of a woman, he was born subject to the Law, alleluia.
Propter nímiam caritátem suam, qua diléxit nos
Deus, Fílium suum misit in similitúdinem carnis peccáti:
natum ex mulíere, factum sub lege, allelúia.
